Scout started as a dream — one that finally felt real the day we stumbled on the building at 2316 Baynard Blvd. It wasn’t much to look at then: a tired, overgrown office space that most people probably walked right past. But we saw something different. Behind the weeds and worn floors, we could picture a warm, welcoming café filled with the smell of good coffee and the sound of neighbors catching up.

Convincing the previous owner took some time (and a lot of coffee), but once they caught the vision, things started to move. From there, we worked closely with the city to bring new life into this historic building. It wasn’t quick or easy — but little by little, the place began to transform. About a year later, Scout Café opened its doors.

From day one, our goal has been simple: to create a place that feels like home. A spot where people can slow down for a minute, connect with others, and share something good — whether that’s a meal, a laugh, or just a really great cup of coffee.

At Scout, we stand for Coffee. Community. Local. Our goals are to:

• Share our love of coffee, food, and genuine hospitality

• Be a welcoming space for conversation and connection

• Support our neighbors by hiring local, sourcing local, and giving back locally

Every piece of Scout was built with care — from restoring the old bones of the building to choosing the pastries in the case and the people behind the counter. All of it comes together to make this place what it is: more than just a café, a Cornerstone.
